Full Day BackCountry Skiing

6-8 Hours | Beginner - Advanced | 1-8 People

 

Your guide will meet you at your chosen start time (8 am recommended) at the agreed upon location, usually the trail head. We will start by discussing the avalanche conditions and weather forecasts and go over the tour plan for the day. We will also check that everyone has the required gear, and that it is working and fitting properly. Next, we may go through a brief refresher on avalanche safety and companion rescue if necessary. Once everyone is synced up, we will be of to explore the mountains and find the best snow. Along the way your guide will continue the discussion on avalanche safety and good decision making. Lunch, snacks and hot drinks are included on your ski tour!

Required Gear:​

• Alpine-touring (AT) skis or splitboard 

• Climbing skins

• Avalanche rescue equipment (beacon, shovel, probe)

• Hard shell jacket 

• Insulated "puffy" jacket 

• Hard shell pants/ snow pants

• Thermal base layers

• Water resistant insulated gloves

• Beanie

• 20 - 40 L Backpack 

• Water

Want to use your own "resort-style" alpine skis or snowboard instead of AT skis or splitboard? That is a possibility, we can provide you with snowshoes, but it is not our recommendation. The reality of backcoutry skiing is that you spend much more time climbing up then skiing down. Climbing on alpine touring skis or splitboard is much more efficient at uphill letting you go faster and further. They will help you will get a lot more out of your day!

Note: The entry fee to Rocky Mountain National Park is not included in the tour cost. Each vehicle must purchase a $25 day pass or purchase/posses a National Parks Annual Pass ($80).
